The February California Coastal Commission meeting, held at the Long Beach Civic Center, addressed several significant issues impacting the California Coast. A notable agenda item was the City of San Diego's request for a secondary treatment waiver under the Clean Water Act for the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Commission approved this waiver, enabling the city to continue its landmark water recycling initiative, Pure Water San Diego. This decision helps move forward innovative approaches to sustainable water management.

Another significant discussion involved SpaceX's proposal to increase Falcon 9 rocket launches from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County. The Commission reviewed revised findings following its previous objection in October 2024, focusing on potential impacts to coastal resources and environmental considerations. Public comments highlighted concerns about acoustic disturbances, marine debris, and the broader environmental footprint of increased launch activities. This decision reinforced the October vote.

The annual Big Bay Boom fireworks display in San Diego also came under scrutiny. The Commission granted a two-year permit for the event, with a stipulation that the Port of San Diego explore environmentally friendly fireworks alternatives, such as drone shows, to mitigate ecological impacts in the future.

During the general public comment session, several organizations and members of the public expressed gratitude toward the Commission for its enforcement actions against Sable Offshore Corporation. The Commission had issued cease-and-desist orders to halt unauthorized pipeline repair activities by Sable, aiming to prevent further environmental harm associated with offshore oil drilling. ActCoastal partners and others also celebrated a recent victory at the local government level: the Goleta City Council unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the restart of oil pipelines in Santa Barbara County, reflecting strong community resistance to Sable's proposed operations.

The meeting did not result in any vote charts.
