The California Coastal Commission convened in Santa Barbara from April 9–11, addressing several significant coastal issues. A major enforcement action resulted in an $18 million fine against Sable Offshore Corp. for unauthorized pipeline work along the Gaviota Coast, marking the largest penalty in Commission history. The Commission also approved a $1.835 million Local Coastal Program grant to the City of Oceanside to support its RE:BEACH sand retention and coastal resilience project. Additionally, the Commission reviewed a proposal for a bluff seawall in Pismo Beach to protect a blufftop property, sparking debate over shoreline armoring and its environmental impacts.
