Gladstone’s Restaurant Use Of Public Parking Lot in Pacific Palisades

Summary

August 9, 2024

Gladstone's beachfront restaurant in Pacific Palisades was approved for a permit amendment to continue using a state-owned public beach parking lot through 2027. The staff recommendation includes substantial mitigation, including public access amenity improvement on site, creation of an additional parking lot at Topanga Lagoon, a plastic pollution reduction program and more. The Commission unanimously approved the permit amendment with staff’s proposed conditions.

Why You Should Care

Private, for profit entities should not be allowed to take up public parking spaces. This permit represents a classic example of Coastal Commission's important role in protecting the public’s right to access the coast. Through this permit amendment, the public parking disturbance is limited in time and substantially mitigated through staff’s conditions.
